Georgia Weather Forecast: A Warmer, But Rainy, Weekend

It shouldn't freeze again, but metro Atlanta is in for rain and thunderstorms this weekend. Find out when it's most likely to get wet here.

ATLANTA, GA — After a couple of freezing nights, metro Atlanta is in for some warmer weather this weekend. But along with the nicer temperatures will come, basically, a 100 percent chance that we're going to get some rain, and maybe thunderstorms.

First, the good news. High temperatures should push back up into the 60s this weekend, hitting around 64 on Saturday and 61 on Sunday, according to the National Weather Service. Low temperatures should be in the 50s on Friday and Saturday nights and will get down around 40 late Sunday.

After a mostly sunny Friday, though, some rain is expected to roll into the area. There's a slight chance of showers starting around noon on Saturday, jumping up to around a 40 percent chance of rain by the afternoon.

That chance jumps up all the way to 100 percent on Saturday night, when the weather service says we could get thunderstorms as well in the overnight hours. There's another 90 percent chance of rain on Sunday, with thunderstorms again possible starting in the morning and continuing into the afternoon.

By Sunday night, the chance of rain will drop down to about 30 percent.

Here's your weekend weather forecast for metro Atlanta, from the National Weather Service:

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 58. West wind 5-10 m.p.h., with gusts as high as 15 m.p.h. Partly cloudy Friday night, with a low around 43. Southwest wind around 5 m.p.h.

Saturday: A slight chance of showers between noon and 2 p.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 64. Southwest wind 5-10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 m.p.h. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. Saturday night, rain and possibly a thunderstorm before 1 a.m., then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 1 a.m. Low around 51. Southeast wind 5-10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent.

Sunday: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 1 pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m. High near 61. Southeast wind 10-15 m.p.h. becoming west in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 20 m.p.h. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent.A 30 percent chance of rain Sunday night. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 40.
