Flood Watch For North and Central Georgia As Heavy Rains Pound Area

A unusually moist weather system will bring heavy rains to the area before it heads east on Monday.

Minor flooding is possible in parts of north and central Georgia as additional rainfall is expected in the area.

According to the National Weather Service, additional amounts of 2-4 inches are possible through Monday afternoon. Residents in these areas should be on the lookout for possible flood warnings and watches issued by the NWS.

Along with flooding, the NWS warns that gusty winds could lead to downed trees.

A system of deep tropical moisture will stall over the region into Monday with a low pressure system moving northeast. Rounds of heavy rainfall are expected before the system leaves the area late Monday. Periods of heavy rain with isolated thunderstorms are expected through tonight.

A flood watch is already in effect from 7 p.m. Sunday till Monday evening for Barrow, Clayton, Cherokee, Clarke, Cobb, Dekalb, Douglas, Forsyth, Gwinnett, North Fulton, Bartow, Walton and Paulding counties. A flood warning is in effect for the Big Creek near Alpharetta and Cumming until Wednesday afternoon.
