In Loving Memory of Frances White Young, 94

Frances White Young, a resident of Lenbrook Retirement Community in Atlanta since 1996, died December 22 at her home. She was 94 years old. She is survived by two daughters, Helen Young Savage (Henry) of West Hartford, Conn. and M.J. Thorne (Carl) of Smyrna; and five grandchildren, Louisa and Radclyffe Savage, and Katie, Michael and Alex Thorne. She is also survived by her younger sisters Jeane White DuBose of Atlanta and Mary Ann White Smith of Macon, as well as her 12 nieces and nephews, their spouses and families, and a cousin. She was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, Louis Cass Young, in 1996 and by her two older sisters, Dorothy White Ramsey and Elizabeth Driver Kistler.

Born in Columbus on November 8, 1921, Frances graduated from Washington Seminary in 1940, attended Agnes Scott College for two years and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1944, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. Subsequently employed by the Glenn L. Martin Company (now Lockheed Martin), Aberdeen, Md., she married Louis Cass Young of Pelham, N.Y. in August 1949. They lived in Bolton, Mass. for four years before moving back to Atlanta.

Frances was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church and active in local civic groups as well as in the Lenbrook community. She had a zest for life and loved her own, and her quiet and kind spirit was an inspiration for all of those who knew her. She will be greatly missed. The family is deeply grateful for the kind and compassionate care provided in recent months by her “angel” caregivers including Pam, Gertrude, Gwinita, Asma, Gloria, Theresa, Crystal, Nassima, and Dixie, and for the support of all members of the Lenbrook community. Funeral services will be private and scheduled at a future date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Agape Center, c/o Trinity Presbyterian Church.
