Metro Atlanta Could See Light Snow Friday, Saturday

Winter weather advisory begins Friday afternoon. Any significant accumulation is expected to hit north of the major metropolitan area.

PEACHTREE CITY, GA -- Much of metro Atlanta is forecast with a 100 percent chance of precipitation for Thursday night and Friday morning, but the chance of snow is less here than the rest of north Georgia.

A winter weather advisory for accumulating snow and ice will be in effect from 3 p.m. Friday through 7 p.m. Saturday for North Georgia. The area is expected to get between 2 and 4 inches of snow and less than 1 inch of ice, with smaller amounts in metro Atlanta.

Temperatures are expected to fall into the low 40s Thursday night, according to the National Weather Service. Highs are expected to rise into the upper 40s on Friday.

However, lows are expected to fall to freezing levels on Friday night, and that’s when the chance of snow is greatest throughout Atlanta and DeKalb and Cobb counties.

On Saturday, clear to partly cloudy skies are expected to return, with highs reaching into the 40s. Lows are expected to be in the upper 20s on Saturday night, and no chance of precipitation is forecast.
