Midtown YMCA Still Closed, But Giving Free Meals To Youth

MIDTOWN, GA — Metro Atlanta YMCA locations across the city are slowly reopening. The Arthur M. Blank Family Youth YMCA in Midtown hasn’t officially reopened, but they confirmed with Patch that they are doing a free meal program for anyone up to age 18.

It runs Monday through Friday from 2-4 p.m. This location only provides youth programs and is not a membership facility or fitness center.

As of Friday seven locations have reopened. They’ve been closed since mid March due to the coronavirus pandemic. The YMCA of Metro Atlanta plans to incrementally reopen 19 of its 24 facilities across the region with limited operations and new coronavirus precautions. Social distancing will be required and enforced by trained staff. Exercise equipment will also be positioned to provide the six-foot distance between people recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Although they’ll be back in service, members can expect limited operations and new precautions.

According to the website, masks will be required in all common areas where other members are present and when walking to and from workout areas. They don't have to stay on during the workout, but it's encouraged to limit the spread of germs. Also, a health pre-screening is required before entering the building. One will have to be completed for each visit.

Water fountains remain closed, so members should bring a water bottle.

During the first phase of reopening the Y, the play center will not be available. No one under the age of 18 will be permitted in the Y at this time.

Most locations will be closed 1-3 p.m. Monday through Friday for cleaning. Business hours during the week are 5 a.m. - 1 p.m. and 3-10 p.m. On Saturday and Sunday it's 5 a.m. - 3 p.m.

On Friday, the first group of reopenings included locations in Buckhead, East Lake, Kennesaw, Marietta, Peachtree Corners, Newnan and Covington.
