Midtown's Colony Square Construction Turned Into Holiday Art

Local artists have turned construction barriers into art for Colony Square's annual Festivity + Trees program.

ATLANTA, GA -- As thousands drive, walk and bike down Peachtree Street, their ordinary commutes are being transformed thanks to 27 local artists. Twelve-foot-tall wooden trees and eight-foot-tall construction barricades will be the canvases for the artists, including Andrew Harmon, a young architect who works in Midtown. Harmon and the others are finalizing their works of art this week before the reveal party on Nov. 30, which is free and open to the public.

Over the past two weeks, the artists have worked to transform construction into art at Midtown’s Colony Square for its third annual Festivity + Trees program. As part of the ongoing tradition, 14 artists (including a group of teachers from Primrose School of Midtown!) have worked to create unique designs for 7-foot-tall wooden Christmas trees that will be sprinkled across the property to spread holiday cheer. Plus, as an extension of the 2018 program, an additional 13 artists have enhanced the construction barricades with colorful works of art.

On Friday, Nov. 30 from 4 to 6 p.m., guests are invited to the Festivity + Trees Reveal Party where artists will unveil their designs to the public. During the event, guests will mingle with the artists, enjoy live holiday entertainment, indulge in a holiday s’mores station, sip on beverages for all ages provided by Sunshine Alchemy and experience more seasonal surprises.
