MIDTOWN, GA — The Red Cross urges eligible people to donate blood and platelets to address a critical supply shortage.

All types of blood donations are needed, but there is an especially large demand for Type O, which has dipped to as low as a one-day supply for the entire country in recent weeks.

The country’s blood supply has been strained by traumatic injuries and an increase in overdoses. Hospitals also are working through a backlog of elective surgeries, which often require blood products.

People who donate blood from Sept. 13-30 will receive a limited-edition college football T-shirt while supplies last. September's donors will also receive a free haircut coupon from Sport Clips Haircuts.

Here are the Red Cross blood drives coming up in the Midtown area in the next few weeks. You can search for additional Red Cross blood drives from a wider area here.
