Star Student Athlete: Oconee's Zoey Shines In Marching Band

OCONEE, GA — We all know student athletes who also bring their A-game to other parts of their lives.

What sport does the star student athlete play?

Zoey plays the clarinet in the marching band.

Why do you believe the star student athlete should be recognized?

While marching band is not considered a sport, I have to disagree. They begin during summer practicing for six to eight hours a day, then it is almost daily practices after school to prepare the halftime show for the season. This was Zoey's first year in marching band, and even with AP classes, honors classes, adjusting to high school and participating in other school events, she has continued to excel and maintain an excellent grade point average. Zoey is also hoping to audition her way into honor band for the fourth year this spring. She may not be an "athlete," but she puts in the same work, enthusiasm and time as any other athlete, and we are so proud of all her hard work.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star student athlete?

Zoey is an excellent cook! When she has time, she is always making delicious treats for her family and friends.
