Gwinnett Sushi Restaurant Fails Inspection

Problems with hand-washing and other issues lead to a 65/U health inspection for the restaurant.

DULUTH, GA β€” A Gwinnett County sushi restaurant that had racked up 99s on its two most recent health inspections plummeted to a failing grade on its most recent inspection this week.

Flying Roll, at 3312 Peachtree Industrial Blvd. in Duluth, scored a 65/U on its inspection Wednesday.

According to inspectors, employees were seen handling dirty dishes off of tables, then not washing their hands before starting other tasks in the kitchen.

Two chefs in the kitchen also were seen changing gloves, but not washing their hands. Hand sinks in both bathrooms were found to not have hot water and raw salmon and unwashed vegetables were found being stored over ready-to-eat food in the cooler.

A freezer near bathrooms had a broken lock and scoop handles were found touching food in containers of rice, seeds and other containers.

The failing score was a steep drop for Flying Roll, which had scored 99/A grades on inspections in February and June. According to state policy, inspectors will return to inspect the restaurant again within the next 10 days.

They will check to see if issues cited on this week's report have been addressed. If not, they could shut the restaurant down until problems are fixed.
