Here are the top three stories today in Smyrna-Vinings:

  1. Cobb County police have obtained an arrest warrant in a disturbing animal cruelty case. A Ring doorbell video captured 33-year-old James Moses throwing a terrier mix against a ceiling in a Smyrna apartment complex, leading to shock and outrage. Authorities have issued a warrant for Moses on charges of aggravated cruelty to animals, which carries a potential five-year prison sentence. Fortunately, the dog, named Smokie, is undergoing evaluation by a veterinarian and does not appear to have suffered permanent damage. (Fox 5 Atlanta)
  2. Cobb County has introduced Logan's List, a voluntary database linked to emergency services, designed to identify individuals with special needs. Inspired by a Georgia teen with autism and other special needs, the list informs first responders about residents who might have communication difficulties or other conditions. The goal is to enhance responder awareness and improve their ability to provide appropriate assistance, with the information available in the DEC Computer-Aided Dispatch system for telecommunicators, officers, and firefighters to access. (Cobb County Courrier)
  3. Smyrna is hosting its first annual Girls Night Out event on Nov. 3 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Smyrna Market Village. Local businesses will stay open late, offering giveaways and discounts to women attending the event. The first 50 women over 21 to register will receive a Smyrna swag bag with coupons, giveaways from local businesses, and Smyrna merchandise provided by Parks and Recreation. The event is free and doesn't require registration, however, those interested in receiving a Smyrna Swag bag should register in advance. (Smyrna Parks and Recreation via Facebook)
