Here are the top three stories in Smyrna-Vinings today:

  1. Two winning Powerball tickets were sold in Georgia, with one worth $1 million from a local Publix store and another valued at $2 million via the Georgia Lottery's mobile app. The lucky Publix store is located in nearby Alpharetta, and the winner lives in Cobb County. Meanwhile, the Powerball jackpot has rolled over to $725 million with a cash value option of $350.5 million, and the next drawing is scheduled for Saturday. Georgia Lottery winners with prizes over $600 must claim them at the lottery headquarters or district offices, presenting a winner claim form and valid government-issued photo ID with a social security card.   2. There are two upcoming solar eclipses in North America, the first one on Oct. 14. In Cobb County, approximately 52 percent of the sun will be covered by the moon during this eclipse, which takes place from 11:43 a.m. to 2:44 p.m. Cobb Libraries are offering workshops to educate people about the eclipse and will provide free solar glasses.   3. Cobb County Elections and Registration will hold a Town Hall event on Tuesday, Oct. 3, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Senior Wellness Center in nearby Marietta. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet Interim Director Gerry Miller and gain insights into the department's divisions, responsibilities, and details about the upcoming November Municipal Elections.
