Virginia-Highland Summerfest Kicks Off This Weekend

Virginia-Highland Summerfest is slated for this weekend in one of Atlanta's most historic neighborhoods.

ATLANTA, GA -- With festival season in full effect, Midtown residents and visitors won't want to miss Virginia-Highland Summerfest, which kicks off this weekend. The event will feature an artist market with more than 230 artists as well as a local market featuring hand-made products.

One of the more family-friendly events at the festival will be KidsFest, which is a special area for children featuring games, crafts, kid-themed entertainment and activities. For the more active and athletic set, the Summerfest 5K Road Race will commence Saturday morning and stream through the streets of the Virginia-Highland neighborhood. After the race, there will be an onsite Tot Trot for attendees aged 7 and under.

And what's a Summerfest with live music? This year the fest will have two acoustic stages, one of which the site of the Summerfest Kickoff Block Party on Friday. The jam will feature The Apple Scruffs doing covers of some of the most iconic bands of all time, including The Beatles, Led Zeppelin and the Grateful Dead.

The Main Stage will feature heavy hitters such as Israel Nash, The New Respects, Banditos and Stokeswood on Saturday and Sunday.

The (mostly) free event begins Friday, June 2 from 8 to 11 p.m. at Virginia Avenue between North Highland Avenue and Park Drive.
