59 Tickets Issued During Scott's Law Detail

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — The McHenry County Sheriff's Office was out in full force as part of a Scott's Law detail on March 19 and handed out 59 traffic citations during the crackdown.

The traffic unit focused on roadways throughout the county watching out for motorists who did not follow "Scott's Law." The law requires that upon approaching any stationary vehicle with flashing emergency lights, including commercial trucks and cars, approaching vehicles must lower their speed, change lanes and proceed with caution.

During the March 19 details, the sheriff's office's traffic unit made 55 traffic stops and issued 59 traffic citations. They also handed out seven traffic warnings.

The tickets doled out include:

  • 26 Scott's Law citations
  • 9 speeding tickets
  • 7 uninsured citations
  • 6 expired registration citations
  • 4 cell phone citations
  • 7 other citations

The seven warnings issued were for various traffic violations.

Scott’s Law is aimed to protect emergency workers on the side of the road and traffic details are conducted throughout the year to help raise awareness for the safety of roadside first responders, according to a news release.
