Algonquin Bar Fined For Breaking COVID Rules

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — An Algonquin bar is the first business in McHenry County to receive a fine for failure to comply with state mandates regarding social distancing and mask requirements, the Northwest Herald is reporting. In an effort to avoid a costly and lengthy court battle, Valerie Wood-Hellyer, the owner of Creekside Tap in Algonquin, said the business decided to plead guilty and pay a $75 fine and court costs.

Director of Environmental Health Patricia McHenry Nomm said during a Monday Board of Health meeting that the county's health department has issued notices to appear in court to four businesses and has open complaints for 350 businesses, according to the Northwest Herald.

In December, the Crystal Lake Health Food Store became the first business to have a complaint filed in court for mask violations. The health food store, like other businesses facing similar accusations, could be fined between $75 and $2,500 if convicted.

Other businesses facing fines include Nedza's Little Store, a food an liquor store in McHenry, and Xtreme Wheels, a roller rink in Crystal Lake.
