Confusion Arises Over Where D300 Candidates Should File

ALGONQUIN AND LAKE IN THE HILLS, IL — McHenry County Clerk Joe Tirio says there's been some confusion in recent days regarding where candidates running for two local school boards should file for election.

Tirio says the confusion lies in the fact that the two school districts, Cary Community Community Unit School District 300 and Consolidated School District 26, overlap into multiple counties. But Tirio says state law requires board of education candidates to file in the county where the school district's principal office is located.

"We heard from prospective candidates that there was confusion," Tirio told Patch in an email response.

Since the main offices for both District 26 and District 300 are in McHenry County, potential candidates should plan to file at the county clerk's office in McHenry County, which is located at the county administration building, 667 Ware Road, Woodstock.

According to the clerk's office, these school districts have borders overlapping into multiple counties, but should file in McHenry County:

The filing period for candidates planning to run in the April 4, 2023, consolidated election began at 8 a.m. Monday, Dec. 12, and runs through 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 19.
