2 Incumbents, 2 Newcomers Poised To Win D300 Race

ALGONQUIN AND LAKE IN THE HILLS, IL — Two incumbents and two newcomers appear on track to claim four open seats on the Community Unit School District 300 school board.

With all precincts reporting, incumbent Nancy Zettler lead the race with 4,840 votes. She will serve her second term on the local school board, according to unofficial vote tallies.

In a Facebook post early Wednesday morning, Zettler thanked those who made it out to their polling place Tuesday to vote for her.

"Thank you to everyone who supported public education and D300 yesterday," she wrote. "We did it!"

Newcomer Randi Gathier also appeared on track to be elected to the board, with 4,373 votes, and incumbent Stephen J. Fiorentino, with 4,301 votes, is poised to his third term as a D300 school board member. Meanwhile, Olutola "Tola" Makine grabbed the fourth open seat with 4,030 votes.

Official vote tallies will be available in the coming weeks and the current results, which are posted on the Kane and McHeny County Clerk's Office websites, do not including provisional and late-arriving votes.

The four projected winners in the D300 race have been campaigning together, urging voters to make all of them their top picks in the school board race. As of Wednesday morning, the group appeared to have a clear lead over the four other newcomers in the race.

Newcomers Laurie Parman, Connie Cain Robert Reining and Kristina Konstanty earned the following vote totals:

  • Cain: 3,797
  • Reining: 3,533
  • Konstanty: 3,500
  • Parman: 2,883
