Dog & Puppy Foster Homes Needed for 11/2!

Will you let one of these pups crash at your place for a bit?

Safe Haven Dog Rescue is seeking loving foster homes next Saturday 11/2 for our HOWL-O-ween Transport!

The dogs and puppies listed are in Tennessee and in desperate need of rescue. We would like to bring them here to Illinois, but we need committed foster homes first. Please take a moment to read about these hopeful dogs and puppies to see if you, or someone you know, would be interested in opening your home to foster. These pups deserve a HOMECOMING!

Star – 2 year old lab/pit mix. Star is a true star! He is so playful! His favorite friend at the shelter is Doris; these two would play together for hours if they could! Star is about 60lbs and full of energy. He’d benefit greatly from a family that is active or has a fenced in yard to play fetch in. Star needs some leash training as he can be a little bouncy – it’s just that he loves attention from people! He also LOVES to give hugs. Due to his size and bouncy nature we recommend Star with kids 6 and older. With some guidance and training Star will make a fantastic family member.

Diez – 2 year old cattle dog mix. Mr. Playful Personality could be Diez’s nick name! He loves to play with other dogs. He’s great with all people too. Diez can climb a four foot chain link fence, so will do best with a higher fence or someone to keep a close eye in this guy.

Sonny – 2 year old heeler mix. Sonny was brought to the shelter because he was barking at people… like dogs do. Sonny is a friendly boy with the silliest tongue – it sticks out the side of his mouth! He’s not missing any teeth, that’s just how his tongue comes out! It’s so cute and quirky! This boy is heartworm NEGATIVE! He is cute and spunky and gets along with everyone. If you’re ready to welcome this silly boy, let us know!

Jasmine – A beautiful 30lb “pocket pit” Some horrible person sadly cut off poor Jasmine’s ears. But this meanness has not broken her spirit at all! Jasmine has the friendliest personality! She loves dogs and people equally. She is quite bouncy and ready for anything!

Gunther- This Catahoula mix is about 6 months old. We don’t know how this gorgeous boy was found wandering the streets! He’s smart! He knows to sit when shown a treat. And this boy loves treats! At 6 months old he’s got plenty of puppy energy. He gets along with everyone!

Luna & Sola – these beautiful 6-month-old sisters are a perfect pair! They are about 30lbs each and lab mixed with something else – maybe pointer? Both were shy when they arrived at the shelter. They didn’t know what was going on and were scared. However, with some patience and love (and treats!) these girls came around very quickly. Now they greet shelter volunteers with tail wags and happily receive pets and snuggles. Sola and Luna are smart and food motivated, so will be easy to train! These girls are heartworm negative and will make excellent family pets.

Dora – a six-month-old shepherd mix. She’s was so scared of everything when she came into the shelter! But some volunteers took some time with her to show her the world and people in it can be good. She sure came around quickly! Dora enjoys people now. A snuggle is now one of her favorite things! Dora still needs a patient foster as she learns to trust, but this girl will be a great family pet!

Cricket – This guy is about 3 years old and a shepherd hound mix. He has a gorgeous brindle and black coat and has the sweetest eyes! This guy is relatively calm. He likes to hang out with people and other dogs. At 50lbs he can fit into any family situation. Cricket can’t wait to get out of the shelter!

Monet – This mixed breed with adorable perky ears can’t wait to get out of the shelter! This girl has a sad story. She was found abandoned in a house with all her dog friends rotting around her. Someone she survived and boy was she happy to see animal control! You would never guess this girl had a rough start in life. She loves people and playing with other dogs. At 35lbs and 1 year old she’s a great size. Warning! She loves to give kisses. ?

Grayson – This very handsome boy is a boxer mix. He’s about a year old and has the most beautiful amber eyes. Grayson was a stray and would love to find a family to love him forever! Smart and eager to learn, this boy will fit into any situation!

Koda- Mixed breed, almost one year old and 30lbs. Is Koda not the cutest little mix? He was picked up wandering the streets in Tennessee. Koda is a very happy boy! His tail is always wagging and he loves to roll to his back for his very favorite thing – belly rubs! Koda likes other dogs and all people!

Doris – Female Yellow Lab/Shepherd Mix about 2 years old and 50lbs. She was shy and unsure of "us humans" when she arrived at the shelter, but has decided that there are good people in the world and we aren't so bad after all. She has quickly become one of the shelter favorites. Her best day ever is when she is being petted and loved. This girl needs another dog in her life to give her confidence. She LOVES to play with Star, another dog at the shelter. However, when playtime is over this girl shakes in her kennel. It’s too loud and chaotic for her in the shelter. She’d love to find a home with people to give her love to! Unfortunately, she is heartworm positive and will need treatment that Safe Haven will provide. It is not contagious to the other dogs in your home as long as they are on heartworm preventative.

JRock – This handsome hound is 3 years old and about 53lbs. He is wonderful with everyone! He coexists with other dogs just fine! The shelter volunteers say he’s very easy going. He loves everyone he meets! This good boy keeps a clean kennel. JRock is Heartworm positive, which means he'll need a foster home for approximately 2 months to go through treatment! . It is not contagious to the other dogs in your home as long as they are on heartworm preventative.

Jamie – What do you get when you cross a basset hound and a pit bull? A Bittie? A Battie? A Passet mix? Those names are goofy, just like Jamie. He’s a silly and happy pit/basset mix! He has short legs like a basset hound and the sweet and loving personality of a pit. This boy is 1.5 years old and weighs 38lbs. He always greets humans and other dogs with a happy tail wag. Sweet Jamie has been at the shelter for a while and really hope that this is his lucky day!

Zuma – Zoom Zoom Zuma could be this guys nick name. Zuma is an energetic black lab mix. He was surrendered by his owner because he got to big for the man to handle. Zuma is looking for an active family that wants to take him on adventures! He’s fine with other dogs after a proper introduction. Zuma gets along with people of all ages. If you can host Zuma while we search for his forever family let us know!

C Puppies - Sister Connie, Charlotte, & Clara, along with brother Clarence are looking to get out of the shelter. These four sweet pups will be about 10 weeks old when they come to IL. They are sweet and social! Though they are a little shy they do warm up quickly! They can be fostered in pairs!

Safe Haven provides you with everything you need while you foster. You also have the first option to adopt the dog in your care. Fostering is a great way to see if a dog fits in with your family!
