First School-Based Nonprofit Food Pantry for Algonquin School District Opened Wednesday

About 130 families went to the grand opening of the District 300 Food Pantry at Carpentersville Middle School.

The first school-based nonprofit food pantry for Algonquin School District 300 and Kane County had a big turn out on it's opening day Wednesday.

About 130 families attended the opening of the District 300 Food Pantry at Carpentersville Middle School, My Suburban Life reports.

District 300 Food Pantry is expected to feed 500 people, or about 100 families, per week. Students and families in need are encouraged to shop at the pantry each Wednesday and can leave with enough food to last them the week. District 300 Food Pantry is open every week from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The pantry is run by volunteers and donations. According to the article, The Northern Illinois Food Bank gave a $35,000 grant from the Morgan Stanley Foundation to help build the District 300 Food Pantry. Various organizations also donated a total of $15,000 to help start the pantry.
