First Snowfall In Algonquin, LITH: How Much Is Expected?

Between .5 and 2.5 inches is expected, depending on where you live in the Chicago area, according to the National Weather Service.

ALGONQUIN AND LAKE IN THE HILLS, IL — Algonquin and Lake in the Hills is expected to get up to two inches of snow during the first snowfall of the season early Tuesday. Between .5 and 2.5 inches is in the forecast in different portions of the Chicago area with Algonquin and Lake in the Hills likely to see snowfall on the higher end of that range.

The heaviest snow is expected north of Interstate 80 and along and west of Interstate 355 mainly between 3 and 10 a.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

As for Algonquin and Lake in the Hills, snow is likely mainly after 3 a.m. Tuesday with a 100 percent chance for precipitation. New snow accumulation of less than one inch is expected Monday night and and around an inch is expected Tuesday.

The snow will shift to a mix of rain and snow between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

Wind gusts as high as 25 mph are in the forecast and there will be a high of 41 degrees.

Much of McHenry County and northwest Kane County is expected to see the heaviest snow for the Chicago area, which could lead to light accumulation on roads. Visibility may drop off periodically Tuesday morning and temps will be between 32 and 35 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
