Fox River Above Flood Stage, Warning Continues: NWS

It's the third highest the Fox River has been in recent history.

ALGONQUIN, IL — The Fox River in a portion of Algonquin has exceeded the flood stage, according to the National Weather Service. While the flood stage begins at 9.5 feet, the water level was at 10.54 feet.

The NWS's Advanced Hydraulic Prediction Service said at 10.54 feet, this is the third highest water level in recent history. The water reached 13.15 feet in July of 2017 and 12.7 feet in April of 2013.

A flood warning lasts through the weekend and into next week for many areas of northern Illinois.

The Advanced Hydraulic Prediction Service estimates the water will be below flood stage around 8 a.m. Wednesday.

“We had a powerful system with a lot of warmth ahead of it and a lot of cold after it,” said NWS meteorologist Casey Sullivan, the Northwest Herald reported.
