Holder Park Reopens After Renovations

Among the upgrades are an updated playground, basketball court and baseball field.

Holder Park is named in honor of Algonquin Police Officer Larry Holder, who tragically lost his life in 1982. Officer Holder drowned in Crystal Creek while heroically attempting to rescue a child who had fallen into the water during a flood.

ALGONQUIN, IL — Holder Park has reopened after renovations, officials said.

The latest upgrades to Holder Park feature brand-new playground equipment, a refurbished baseball backstop and fencing and an updated basketball court. The playground, last renovated in 1999, has been completely transformed into a modern, inclusive area for children featuring a first-responder theme, according to a news release from the village of Algonquin.

“Holder Park exemplifies our dedication to creating unique and memorable places for everyone in Algonquin to enjoy,” said Village President Debby Sosine. “This park and others under construction feature a strong thematic influence and inclusivity, ensuring that all children can play together in a welcoming environment.”
