Longmeadow Pkwy In Algonquin Lane Closures

Some lanes on the road in Algonquin are expected to be closed for up to four weeks.

ALGONQUIN, IL — Construction on the Longmeadow Parkway in Algonquin is causing closures on the road for weeks ahead, according to reports. The Northwest Herald reported the lane closures will include portions near Sleepy Hollow Road.

The construction began Monday. Drivers are asked to keep speeds low in the area, as there will be workers around. The closures are expected to last for three to four weeks, according to the Herald.

The Herald reported that the Longmeadow Parkway Fox River Bridge is planned to be a tree-lined parkway, featuring a landscaped median, for 5.6 miles between Huntley Road and Route 62.

With a total estimated cost of $115 million, the project is expected to alleviate traffic, a Kane County report said, according to the Herald. The U.S. government is picking up $14.5 million of the bill, while the state of Illinois is chipping in $39.4 million.

The corridor will be free to use for the public, but the bridge toll, estimated at 75 cents, will be implemented until the bridge debt is paid off, according to the Herald.
