ALGONQUIN, IL — A 43-year-old Algonquin man has been convicted of aggravated domestic battery for choking a child at her home.

Demond Williams was found guilty during a bench trial in McHenry County earlier this month, according to a news release from the McHenry County State's Attorney's Office. A sentencing hearing is set for May 9.

Authorities first launched an investigation into Wiliams after school officials at Huntley High School retrieved a message from a student that contained keywords indicating the teen had been abused, according to the news release. Officers with the Algonquin Police Department responded to the teen's home and interviewed her, her mother and Williams.
