Masks No Longer Mandated On D300 Buses Starting Wednesday

The local school district will follow guidelines issued last week by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, school officials said.

ALGONQUIN, IL — Community Unit School District 300 will no longer require masks on school buses starting on Wednesday.

Masks will continue to be recommended for all students and employees using school-related transportation, including buses, taxis, athletic vans and driver education cars, but not be mandated, school officials said in recent days.

The change comes following Friday's updated guidance from the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention that lifted requirements for masks on buses and vans for public and private schools as well as for child care programs. In addition, the CDC is no longer recommending universal masking indoors for kindergarten through 12th grade students.

Several other Chicago-area school have lifted the masks-on-bus mandates as well.

District 300 will continue implementing several mitigation measures on buses and other vehicles, including: Deep cleaning busses at least once daily, ensuring face masks are available on all district transportation for those who request one, and, when the weather warms, opening several windows to ensure effective air circulation.
