McHenry County Cooling Centers: Locations For Summer 2019

These listed locations are in addition to libraries and other public buildings, according to the McHenry County Sheriff's Office.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — It's been a hot summer in McHenry County and across the state, and temperatures are expected to creep back up into the mid-80s throughout Algonquin and surrounding areas this weekend. The McHenry County Sheriff's Office encourages those without access to air condition to consider going to a local cooling center.

A list of local cooling centers can be found on the McHenry County Sheriff's Office Facebook page via the list on the county's website, along with a map. While a few of the cooling center locations are open 24/7, several are open during working hours only. These locations are in addition to libraries and other public buildings, according to the sheriff's office:

Algonquin:

  • Ganek Municipal Center: 2200 Harnish Drive (during working hours only)

Harvard:

  • Mercy Health Harvard Hospital: 24 Grant Street (24 hours)

Huntley:

  • Huntley Municipal Complex: 10911 E. Main Street (24 hours; use red phone in lobby).

Lake in the Hills:

  • Irv Floress Safety Education Center: 1109 Crystal Lake Road (Please call in advance at 847-658-5676).

Lakemoor:

  • Lakemoor Police Department: 28581 W IL Route 120 (during working hours only)

Lakewood:

  • Lakewood Village Hall: 2500 Lake Avenue (during working hours only)

Port Barrington:

Prairie Grove:

Woodstock:

  • McHenry County Housing Authority, Old Firehouse Assistance Center: 120 W. South Street (homeless population only)
  • McHenry County Government Center: 2200 N. Seminary Avenue (during working hours only)

Governor JB Pritzker is carrying out his Keep Cool Illinois campaign by making more than 120 state facilities available as cooling centers to provide Illinoisans a place to stay cool and comfortable during the season's hot days.

Tollway Oasis locations are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Department of Human Services cooling centers are open during normal business hours from 8:30 a.m to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, according to the Governor's Keel Cool Illinois website.
