FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Patrick D. Kenneally, McHenry County State’s Attorney, announces that Mathew Berry, 44, of Harvard, Illinois was sentenced to twelve years total in the Illinois Department of Corrections by Honorable Judge Robert Wilbrandt after pleading to two charges of aggravated driving under the influence.

On May 10, 2019, Berry was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol in Harvard, Illinois. He pled guilty on February 26, 2020 but was released on bond pending sentencing. On April 24, 2021, Berry caused a traffic accident in Lake in the Hills, Illinois. Nobody was injured in the accident. Officers located Berry nearby and determined that he was under the influence of alcohol. Berry was found guilty of, or pled guilty to, driving under the influence on four prior occasions.

Berry was sentenced to six years in the Illinois Department of Corrections in both cases. The sentences must be served consecutively, because the latter offense was committed while Berry was released on bond for the earlier offense.

These cases were investigated by the Harvard Police Department and the Lake in the Hills Police Department. These cases were prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorney Brian Miller of the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office.
