ALGONQUIN, IL — A widening project underway on Randall Road will take another step toward completion this week. Traffic along the busy thoroughfare will shift to new pavement from Bunker Hill Drive south to the southern portion of the project, according to an update from the McHenry County Division of Transportation.

There will be intermittent lane closures throughout the day when the switch occurs to implement the lane shift. Drivers are reminded to keep an eye out for construction workers as interruptions to traffic are expected.

The widening project is meant to ease traffic congestion and accommodate more traffic in order to sustain the economic viability and regional mobility to the Algonquin, Crystal Lake and Lake in the Hills area.

The widening project will bring six total lanes to Randall Road between Harnish Drive in Algonquin to Polaris Drive in Lake in the Hills. Additional turn lanes are also expected at the Algonquin and Randall roads intersection and a pedestrian underpass was completed in recent weeks.

The underpass connects an existing multi-use path on the east side of Randall Road to a new multi-use path on the west side of Randall. A sneak peak tour through the underpass can be found on a McHenry County Division of Transportation video posted online.
