There’s Still Time To Catch Fall Festivals Near Algonquin, LITH

ALGONQUIN AND LAKE IN THE HILLS, IL — Fall is a great time to get outside in Algonquin and Lake in the Hills and take in a rich offering of festivals.

The changing colors of autumn provide a scenic background for fall and harvest festivals, which have contests ranging from apple bobbing and pumpkin carving to lumberjack contests and Halloween parades.

Fall is also the season for corn mazes, pumpkin patches and apple orchard visits.

Here are a few festivals and events in Algonquin and Lake in the Hills worth putting on the calendar:

• Farmers Market at the Dole, 401 Country Club Road in Crystal Lake, runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Sunday through Oct. 30. More information via the farmer's market website.
• Old Town Trick-Or-Treat trail starts at 5 p.m. with a showing of “The Addams Family 2" planned for 7 p.m. on Oct. 22. More information via Patch.com.
• Safety Town Trick or Treat will be held from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Halloween, Oct. 31, at the Irv Floress Safety Education Center, 1109 Crystal Lake Road. More via the village of Lake in the Hills website.
• The fall festival at Randall Oaks Zoo, 1180 N. Randall Road in West Dundee, will be running through Oct. 30. More information via the Dundee Township Park District website.

• A Halloween Extravaganza will be held at Bettendorf Castle, 418 Concord Avenue in Fox River Grove, from 1 to 3 p.m. on Oct. 22.
