ALGONQUIN, IL — McHenry County officials this week encouraged Algonquin drivers to consider taking an alternate route next week during a roadwork project on Stonegate Road.

In a traffic notice, McHenry County Department of Transportation said Stonegate Road will close to thru-traffic near the Randall Road intersection starting on Monday, weather permitting. The project is expected to be completed by April 21.

Local traffic will still be allowed on Stonegate Road, and flaggers will be present to guide cars through the area during the daytime. The roadway will reopen to two-way traffic at night, according to the posting.

During the project, Stonegate Road's existing pavement will be milled up, and the cement base under the road will be stabilized. It will then be topped off with new asphalt.

At some points during the project, cars will be made to drive on the road's aggregate base. The transportation department urged drivers to avoid the area when possible.
