What’s On The Nov. 8 Ballot

From the governor’s race to secretary of state to attorney general, here’s a look at what’s on the ballot across Illinois.

Locally, Republican incumbent Joe Tirio will face democratic challenger Mary Mahady in the McHenry County Clerk race.

Voters will also be asked to pick between three candidates vying to become the new McHenry County Treasurer. Former longtime treasurer Glenda Miller is retiring and James S. Young, a libertarian, Amin Karim, a democrat, and Donna Kurtz, a republican, are all looking to take her spot.

Other races we will be watching this election include the governor's race where Gov. J.B. Pritzker of Illinois, will face Republican challenger, State Senator Darren Bailey, and the the state attorney general race where incumbent Kwame Raoul faces Republican challenger Thomas DeVoreare.

Other congressional and senate races that we will be covering, which will appear on McHenry County voters ballots, include:

  • 9th District: Republican nominee Max Rice of Chicago is challenging Democratic incumbent Jan Schakowsky of Evanston.
  • 11th District: Republican Catalina Lauf beat five other candidates in June's primary race and now is aimed at unseating democrat Rep. Bill Foster in the 11th Congressional District race.
  • 16th District: Kevin Olickal, a Skokie Democrat, is facing Republican candidate Vince Romano, also of Skokie, in the 16th Congressional District race. The candidates are looking to succeed U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger, who announced last fall he wouldn't seek re-election.

Illinois voters are also asked to weigh in on an amendment to the state constitution allowing workers the right to organize and bargain collectively. The bill, which was drafted by the Illinois General Assembly in 2021, provides that “employees shall have the fundamental right to bargain collectively through representatives of their own choosing for the purpose of negotiating wages, hours and working conditions and to “protect their economic welfare and safety at work.”

In order for the measure to pass, 60 percent of Illinois voters will need to vote in favor of the amendment for it to be added to the constitution.
