2 Arlington Heights Area Students Named National Scholarship Winners

National Merit Scholarship Corporation released its final list Monday of scholar winners for 2024.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — The National Merit Scholarship Corporation named the final group of winners of 2024 National Merit Scholars Monday, including two students from the Arlington Heights area. These scholar designees join more than 2,900 other college-sponsored award recipients who were announced in June, according to the Evanston-based organization.

The winners from the Arlington Heights area include:

  • Peter J. McLeod, St. Viator High School (Arlington Heights), National Merit University of Alabama Scholarship. Probable career field: Aerospace Engineering
  • Daniel John Martinez II, Prospect High School (Mount Prospect), National Merit University of Tulsa Scholarship. Probable career field: Biology

The college-sponsored awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution financing the scholarship. In all, 149 colleges and universities are sponsoring approximately 3,700 Merit Scholarship awards for 2024. Sponsor colleges include 77 private and 72 public institutions located in 42 states and the District of Columbia.
