Arlington Heights Hospital Honored For Cardiac Care

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one person dies every 34 seconds from a cardiovascular disease. For local patients, knowing that cardiac care at Northwest Community has been recognized as among the best in the state may ease some of the fear such a statistic can create.

The NorthShore — Edward-Elmhurst Health hospital at 800 W. Central Road was recently named a Blue Distinction Center+ for cardiac care designation by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois. Northwest Community is one of just four hospitals in the state to receive the recognition.

To receive the designation, health care facilities must meet quality and safety standards first, and then demonstrate better cost-efficiency compared to other facilities, according to BCBSIL. They also must deliver safe and effective cardiac care for the following:

  • Percutaneous coronary interventions
  • Coronary artery bypass graft
  • Aortic valve replacement
  • Mitral valve replacement and repair
