ARLINGTON HEIGHTS — A 75-year-old Arlington Heights woman and a 57-year-old man from Oregon died Friday afternoon in a crash along Route 47 right in front of the Grundy County Fairgrounds in Morris, Grundy County Coroner John Callahan announced.

The double fatality happened around 1 p.m.

According to Callahan, one car was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of traffic when it struck a vehicle traveling northbound driven by Timothy Shride, 57, of Happy Valley, Oregon.

Shride was pronounced dead at the scene, and his wife was taken to Morris Hospital. The southbound car was driven by Sandra Viola, 75, of Arlington Heights.

"It appears that there was a vehicle northbound in front of Mr. Shride and that unit swerved to avoid being hit by the wrong way driver giving Mr. Shride no time to avoid the crash," the Grundy County Coroner announced.

The double fatality in Morris is being investigated by Callahan’s Office along with Morris Police department. Grundy Sheriff’s Department is reconstructing the crash. Assisting agencies were Morris Fire and Ambulance and Illinois State Police, authorities said.
