Biles Wins In Competitive Return At Hoffman Estates: USA Gymnastics

Simone Biles, one of the most decorated gymnasts of all time, had not competed since the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

HOFFMAN ESTATES, IL — Simone Biles, one of the most successful gymnasts of all time, made the most of her return to competition Saturday by winning the Core Hydration Classic at the NOW Arena in Hoffman Estates. Biles, who had not competed since the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, won the all-around, floor exercise and beam, according to USA Gymnastics.

Blies, a 32-time Olympic and World Championship medalist, was the star attraction for the capacity crowd of 7,200. Biles also won a bronze medal in the uneven bars. She was joined by 10 other Olympians at the two-day competition.

According to USA Gymnastics, Biles, 26, started on the uneven bars with a score of 14.0, and then continued to improve with each successive discipline — beam (14.800), floor exercise (14.900) and vault (15.400) — for a winning all-around score of 59.100.

Biles, one of the most decorated gymnasts of all time, is tied with Shannon Miller for the most Olympic medals won by an American gymnast. In Tokyo, she won a bronze medal on the balance beam before withdrawing due to some mental and physical issues. Biles would also capture a silver medal at those Games in the team competition.

With her all-around score Saturday, Biles has now qualified for the 2023 U.S. Gymnastics Championships Aug. 24-27 in San Jose, California.
