SCHAUMBURG, IL — Started in 1977, Great American Cookies has locations all across the country. Surprisingly, though, there wasn't a store in Illinois until recently, when the gourmet cookie chain opened at Woodfield Mall.

"We continue to look for strategic opportunities to grow our brand and are thrilled to be breaking ground in Illinois," Jenn Johnston, president of FAT Brands' Quick-Service Division, which oversees Great American Cookies, told Patch. "Schaumburg is a great Chicago community that we are confident will eat up what makes us so special — our homemade treats made with only the highest quality ingredients."

Great American Cookies has over 290 stores in the U.S., particularly in the Southeast, as well as Guam. Locals can now enjoy desserts that hit the sweet spot, including a variety of fresh-baked cookies and Create-Your-Own Cookie Cakes. The chain touts itself as the creator of the "Original Cookie Cake."
