Investigation Under Way Into Death of Wonder Lake Man Found at Crash Site

The body of Aaron Sutherland, 22, was found Sunday in Bull Valley in the car he was driving after it crashed into a ditch.

The McHenry County Coroner’s Office and law enforcement officials are investigating the death of a Wonder Lake man found Sunday in a car he was driving that was crashed in a ditch in Bull Valley.

Aaron D. Sutherland, 22, was pronounced dead on the scene at 12:39 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, after passersby noticed debris in the road around the 300 block of Ridge Road and called 911 at about 12:05 p.m., a release from the coroner’s office reported. An autopsy is scheduled Tuesday to determine the cause of death.

According to a Chicago Tribune report, Bull Valley police said Sutherland was driving a 1997 Honda sedan, which appeared to be heading southbound on Ridge Road at a high rate of speed before the car veered 20 feet off the road and struck a tree. Sutherland was not wearing a seat belt, the report added.

Police found illegal drugs in the car but did not say if they were a factor in the crash, the report stated.

A second vehicle also was impounded by police and could have been involved in the accident, which might have happened as early as Thursday night, the report added.
