Longest-Serving Schaumburg Village President Larson Remembered

Visitation for Al Larson, who died Tuesday at the age of 85, will be held Friday at the Al Larson Prairie Center.

SCHAUMBURG, IL — Visitation for former Village President Al Larson, who died earlier this week at the age of 85, will be held Friday. The service is scheduled from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Al Larson Prairie Center for the Arts, 201 Schaumburg Ct., Schaumburg.

Larson was Schaumburg's longest serving mayor (1987 to 2019) and also spent 12 years as trustee, for a combined total of 44 years of continuous service on the Village Board. According to the Village, "Larson led many signature development projects that have significantly raised Schaumburg’s profile locally and nationally, helped spur marked growth within the village and contributed to the village’s overall quality of life."

"The Village of Schaumburg has lost a legend," Schaumburg Village President Tom Dailly, who served as Village Trustee under Larson for over 25 years, said in a statement.

  • Parking will be available at both the Municipal Center (101 Schaumburg Ct.) and adjacent Prairie Center lots. On street parking is available on Summit Drive and neighboring streets if necessary.
  • Visitation attendees are asked to enter the Municipal Grounds off Summit Drive and will exit onto Schaumburg Road. Signage and personnel will be available onsite to assist.
  • Enter the Prairie Center from the west entrance doors (closest to the Municipal Center); the east doors will serve as an exit only.
  • Please expect additional traffic in the area and watch for pedestrians.
  • No guest sign-in book will be provided during the visitation, however, attendees may use the online Tribute Wall to offer condolences and share memories.

Larson was an Eagle Scout and a naturalist. In observance of his lifelong love and appreciation of nature, in lieu of flowers, donations in Mayor Larson’s memory can be made to the Spring Valley Nature Center in Schaumburg at www.parkfun.com/mayorlarsonmemorial.
