Palatine, Illinois — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

This submission comes from Sarah Mepham, who nominated Thomas of Palatine, Illinois.

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

Thomas has attended St. Thomas of Villanova school since he was 3 and when he began exploring options for his Eagle Scout Project, he wanted to give back to the school that provided him with a good education. He took on the project of garden that sits in front of the school that hasn’t been up kept for over 30 years. After about 325 volunteer hours and two months, the project is complete and looks amazing.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?

When Thomas puts his mind on something, he doesn’t quit until it is done.

Congratulations on your achievements, and all of our best wishes to you in the future, Thomas!
