Patriot Day Memorial Ceremony Planned For Monday In Palatine

The memorial ceremony will honor those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

PALATINE, IL — Monday marks the 22nd anniversary of the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. To honor those who lost their lives, the Village of Palatine will be holding a memorial ceremony starting at 9 a.m. at the Palatine Firefighters Memorial at the corner of N. Brockway Street and W. Slade Street in downtown Palatine.

According to organizers, the ceremony will last about 30 minutes.

Members of the fire department and retirees will be marching to the memorial site from Fire Station 85 at 39 E. Colfax Street, accompanied by the Palatine Fire Department Honor Guard.

During the ceremony, the flag will be lowered, a wreath will be placed at the memorial, and a ceremonial ringing of the bell to signify a firefighter’s last call of duty will be rung.
