SCHAUMBURG, IL — A Schaumburg man, who was involved in a standoff with police, has been charged with two felonies stemming from an incident earlier this week in which he reportedly shot a tree trimmer at his residence following a noise dispute. Michael R. Lang, 55, of the 800 block of S. Braintree Drive, is due in court Friday.

The shooting victim, a 66-year-old Hanover Park man, remains in serious condition at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital.

Police said Lang, who was the only person at his home during the incident, exited the residence and began yelling at the victim and three other workers of a landscaping company hired by the homeowner of the property. Lang was reportedly shouting at the workers for making too much noise and asked them to leave.

While the workers were in the process of gathering their equipment to leave, Lang retrieved a handgun from his car parked in the driveway. He then pointed it at the victim and fired one round into his abdomen.

Following the shooting, Lang retreated into the garage of his residence and closed the door. Upon arrival, police secured the residence and attempted to contact Lang. After several hours of a standoff, police said Lang "surrendered peacefully."

The Cook County State's Attorney's Office approved the felony charges.
