ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — The residents and staff at The Moorings of Arlington Heights are an artistic bunch. From Nov. 2 through Nov. 8, their work will be on display at the senior living community as part of the community art show, "Creative Endeavors."

Resident George Blanas is the curator of the event, which includes art work from various media.

"We have everything from needlepoint, tapestries, painting, sculpture and ceramics to photography, jewelry, and so much more," Blanas said. "Items can be recent creations or from the past, and some items are available for sale."

According to The Moorings, Blanas was the head of the art department at Maine West High School in Des Plaines and holds a bachelor of fine arts degree in fashion design from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Blanas moved to the community two years ago and found out there wasn't any kind of art show, so he decided to start one. Last year's show had 57 pieces on display. The community programs department at The Moorings has also helped with the show.

"We have so many creative people here at The Moorings," Blanas said. "It's an honor to showcase their talents."

The show will take place in the Fellowship Hall outside the chapel at 811 E. Central Road. An artist meet-and-great is planned for 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 2.
