Tree Trimmer Shot, 7-Hour Standoff With Shooter Ends: Schaumburg PD

SCHAUMBURG, IL — A man was taken into custody Wednesday night following a shooting involving a tree trimmer and a subsequent standoff that lasted nearly seven hours. According to police, the man, who had barricaded himself in his home, eventually "surrendered peacefully." Police said charges are pending.

In a social media post from the Village of Schaumburg, police said they were on the scene at 2:50 p.m. of an armed barricaded person in the 800 block of S. Braintree Drive, who they believed to be involved in a shooting. Police were utilizing the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System to provide assistance.

Police rendered aid to the victim, a contracted tree trimmer, who was taken to an area hospital for treatment. An investigation revealed that the resident had a noise dispute with the tree trimmer. Police don't believe anyone else was involved in the shooting.

Police were asking residents who live near the incident to say inside their homes for safety reasons, and asked others to stay away from the area.

Braintree Drive was closed from Cornell Lane to Cambridge Drive remained closed throughout the standoff and investigation.

In a 9:41 p.m. social media post, police said the standoff had ended, and the suspect was in custody.
