Lowest New COVID-19 Cases Reported Since October In Buffalo Grove

There have been 3,078 coronavirus cases in Buffalo Grove since the pandemic began, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health.

BUFFALO GROVE, IL — Things are continuing to trend in the right direction when it comes to coronavirus causes in Buffalo Grove. According to the Illinois Department of Public Health, 3,078 people have contracted COVID-19 in Buffalo Grove since the outbreak began. That is an increase of 27 cases since Patch's last report on Feb. 25. The number marks the lowest number of new cases in one week since 24 were recorded during the first week of October 2020.

For further comparison, there was an increase of 38 cases between Feb. 18-25 and 56 cases between Feb. 11-18.

The Lake County Health Department reports there have been 55,143 confirmed cases in Lake County. That's an increase of 505 cases since Feb. 25. For further comparison, there was an increase of 798 cases between Feb. 18-25. In addition, there have been 922 deaths, marking an increase of four since Feb. 25. For further comparison, there was an increase of 10 deaths between Feb.18-25.

The Lake County recovery rate from the coronavirus is currently 98.2 percent. Recovered cases are defined as persons with initial positive specimen collection date greater than 42 days who have not expired. The Recovery rate is calculated as the recovered cases divided by the sum of recovered cases and total deceased cases.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reports 57,712 people have been tested across Buffalo Grove (zip codes 60069, 60089) as of Friday. That marks an increase of 1,291 tests since our last report on Feb. 25. For further comparison, there were 1,744 tests between Feb. 18-25.

According to the Cook County Medical Examiner, 34 people have died due to COVID-19 in the Cook County portion of Buffalo Grove since April 6. The last death happened on Feb. 15.

According to the medical examiner, the age breakdown for the 34 deaths are: 80+ (20), 70-79 (8) and 60-69 (6).

As of Thursday, there have been 1,005 coronavirus-related cases in the Cook County portion of Buffalo Grove, according to the Cook County Department of Public Health. That marks an increase of 11 cases since Feb. 25.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reports there have been 3,971 confirmed coronavirus cases and 512 deaths in long-term care facilities in Lake County. In the past, the IDPH has temporarily removed some cases and deaths on three occasions since Patch has been tracking these numbers, before including them back in at a later date.

Here is a breakdown of cases and deaths at some of these facilities in Buffalo Grove:

  • Belmont Village of Buffalo Grove — 5 cases, 2 deaths (open)/66 cases, 19 deaths (closed)
  • Sunrise of Buffalo Grove — 8 cases, 0 deaths (open)/3 cases, 0 deaths (closed)
  • Symphony Buffalo Grove — 99 cases, 10 deaths (open)/34 cases, 5 deaths (open)

These numbers include both residents and employees of the long-term care facilities.
