New Weekly COVID-19 Cases Rise Slightly In Buffalo Grove

BUFFALO GROVE, IL — According to the Illinois Department of Public Health, 3,128 people have contracted COVID-19 in Buffalo Grove since the outbreak began. That is an increase of 50 cases since Patch's last report on March 5. For comparison there was an increase of 27 cases between Feb. 25-March 5 and 38 cases between Feb. 18-25.

The Lake County Health Department reports there have been 55,259 confirmed cases in Lake County. That's an increase of 116 cases since March 5. For further comparison, there was an increase of 505 cases between Feb. 25-March 5. In addition, there have been 942 deaths, marking an increase of 20 since March 5. For further comparison, there was an increase of four deaths between Feb. 25-March 5.

The Lake County recovery rate from the coronavirus is currently 98.2 percent. Recovered cases are defined as persons with initial positive specimen collection date greater than 42 days who have not expired. The Recovery rate is calculated as the recovered cases divided by the sum of recovered cases and total deceased cases.

Currently, IDPH is reporting a total of 1,204,409 cases, including 20,863 deaths, in 102 counties in Illinois. The age of cases ranges from younger than one to older than 100 years. Within the past 24 hours, laboratories have reported 89,893 specimens for a total of 18,894,652. As of last night, 1,118 individuals in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 231 patients were in the ICU and 102 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.

A total of doses of 4,488,655 vaccine have been delivered to providers in Illinois, including Chicago. In addition, approximately 414,900 doses total have been allocated to the federal government’s Pharmacy Partnership Program for long-term care facilities. According to the Cook County Medical Examiner, 34 people have died due to COVID-19 in the Cook County portion of Buffalo Grove since April 6. The last death happened on Feb. 15.

According to the medical examiner, the age breakdown for the 34 deaths are: 80+ (20), 70-79 (8) and 60-69 (6).


Walgreens Will Offer Over-The-Counter Coronavirus Test


As of Friday, there have been 1,011 1,005 coronavirus-related cases in the Cook County portion of Buffalo Grove, according to the Cook County Department of Public Health. That marks an increase of six cases since March 5. For further comparison, there was an increase of 11 cases between Feb. 25-March 5.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reports there have been 3,971 confirmed coronavirus cases and 512 deaths in long-term care facilities in Lake County. In the past, the IDPH has temporarily removed some cases and deaths on three occasions since Patch has been tracking these numbers, before including them back in at a later date.

Here is a breakdown of cases and deaths at some of these facilities in Buffalo Grove:

  • Belmont Village of Buffalo Grove — 5 cases, 2 deaths (open)/66 cases, 19 deaths (closed)
  • Sunrise of Buffalo Grove — 8 cases, 0 deaths (open)/3 cases, 0 deaths (closed)
  • Symphony Buffalo Grove — 99 cases, 10 deaths (open)/34 cases, 5 deaths (open)

These numbers include both residents and employees of the long-term care facilities.
