BURR RIDGE, IL – The board for Burr Ridge School District 180 is opposed to a planned truck stop southwest of the village.

Last week, the board held a special meeting for the purpose of adopting a resolution against the proposed QuikTrip truck stop southwest of 91st Street and Kingery Highway (Route 83).

In June, the Burr Ridge Village Board adopted a similar resolution.

On Thursday, DuPage County's zoning committee plans to address the proposed truck stop. It would be in an unincorporated area next to Burr Ridge and Willowbrook.

In its resolution, District 180 said the truck stop would have "negative impacts" on Anne M. Jeans Elementary and Burr Ridge Middle schools, both of which are on 91st Street.

The increase in semi-trucks, the resolution said, would affect school buses and the pickup and drop-off of students.

The board also said the noise, fumes and dust from the development would impact the neighboring Carrington Circle subdivision.

Additionally, the board said the district would suffer because the strip mall at 91st and Kingery Highway would be demolished as part of the development. The mall includes Young Cleaners, 7 Star Quick Shop, Hala Hookah and Damascus Falafel.

As of Tuesday, an online petition has collected nearly 2,100 signatures against the truck stop.
