Burr Ridge Migrant Kids Can Go To School: Mayor

It is unclear how many children are among the migrants in town.

BURR RIDGE, IL – The children of migrants in Burr Ridge are eligible to attend local public schools, the mayor said Monday.

"The answer I'm told is yes," Mayor Gary Grasso told the Village Board. "Can (the migrants) be employed? Yet to get an answer. Businesses and residents are asking whether they can offer employment to the migrants."

Last Wednesday, 64 Venezuelan migrants were sent from Chicago to Burr Ridge's Hampton Inn. The mayor has said they are expected to stay at the hotel for no more than 30 days.

The hotel is within the boundaries of Gower Elementary School District 62 and Hinsdale High School District 86. More specifically, it is within Hinsdale South High School's attendance zone.
