Burr Ridge Sees Increasing Rate Of Virus Cases

Of local coronavirus victims, 4 percent have died, according to government numbers.

BURR RIDGE, IL — In the last week, Burr Ridge saw a 12 percent increase in coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic, according to county health authorities. That's higher than the previous week's 8 percent.

As of Sunday, Burr Ridge had 614 cases, up by 68 from a week earlier, according to county health authorities. The virus has infected nearly 6 percent of the town's population.

Of local coronavirus victims, the mortality rate is 4 percent. Since the start of the pandemic, the village has had 26 coronavirus-related deaths, most of them at nursing homes. That number increased by one in the last week.

As of Sunday, Burr Ridge had 57.1 coronavirus cases per thousand people. The figure compares to 40.4 in La Grange Park, 44.2 in Darien, 45.6 in Hinsdale, 46.8 in Western Springs, 52.1 in Elmhurst, 52.3 in Clarendon Hills and DuPage County, 56.9 in suburban Cook County and 62.7 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands).

"Wearing a mask a year ago would have gotten your attention, now those not wearing one attracts attention," Mayor Gary Grasso said in a statement on the coronavirus late last week. "The situation around the state remains overall discouraging, but we have to stay the course until we can be vaccinated."
