Growth In Burr Ridge's Virus Cases Stabilizes: Agencies

Two more coronavirus-related deaths are reported in Burr Ridge.

BURR RIDGE, IL — In the last week, Burr Ridge has seen an increase of 34 new coronavirus cases, for a total of 738, according to county health authorities. That represents a 4.8 percent hike, similar to the previous week's.

The virus has infected nearly 7 percent of the town's population.

Of local coronavirus victims, the mortality rate is 4 percent. Since the start of the pandemic, the village has had 28 coronavirus-related deaths, most of them at nursing homes. The village has seen two more such deaths in the last week.

In a message on the coronavirus last week, Burr Ridge Mayor Gary Grasso noted the area's positivity rate for coronavirus tests continues to drop. Last week, it was down to 8 percent.

"Area hospitals continue to be able to treat those needing treatment," the mayor said. "There was no spike in our area from Thanksgiving — and hopefully there will be no spike in cases after Christmas and New Year's."

As of Sunday, Burr Ridge had 68.6 coronavirus cases per thousand people. The figure compares to 49.6 in La Grange Park, 52.8 in Darien, 55.3 in Western Springs, 55.5 in Hinsdale, 60.3 Clarendon Hills, 62.6 in DuPage County, 63.4 in Elmhurst, 68.9 in suburban Cook County, and 75.9 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands).
