BURR RIDGE, IL – A fundraising page has been set up for Jeana Considine, former principal of Hinsdale School District 181's Elm Elementary School in Burr Ridge.

A couple of days ago, Hinsdale resident Dave Konsoer created a GoFundMe page for Considine, who retired in 2018.

As of Tuesday morning, $6,261 had been donated. In the first 24 hours, the fundraising page pulled in $4,000, GoFundMe spokeswoman Ese Esan told Patch in an email.

For the past year, Considine has been quietly struggling with her health issues, including a blood cancer known as myelodysplastic syndrome, according to the fundraising page.

She has undergone multiple bone marrow biopsies, multiple blood transfusions, and the removal of her gall bladder and a kidney tumor, the page said.

On the page, Konsoer said Considine is not one to ask for assistance, but he cleared the fundraiser with her. He said she needed help with paying her medical bills.

Konsoer said his family knows Considine through her role as principal.

"Needless to say, this is a difficult and scary time for Jeana and her two amazing girls, Joanie and Claire. Given how much Jeana meant to our family, we desperately wanted to help her in a meaningful way," Konsoer said on the page. "She made a tremendous impact on thousands of students, parents and teachers over the course of her long career as an educator, helping to guide children during the most important years of their developing lives."

Considine was with District 181 for nearly three decades.
