Peers Laud Burr Ridge Area Superintendent

The local official received an award, which he called an "extra special honor."

BURR RIDGE, IL – Dave Palzet, superintendent of Pleasantdale School District 107, has been recognized by his peers.

Palzet was selected as the Superintendent of Distinction from more than 40 superintendents in the West Cook region.

The award comes from the Illinois Association of School Administrators.

In a statement, Palzet called the award an "extra special honor" because it came from his peers.

"Superintendency can be a lonely job," Palzet said. "It has always been my goal to support my peers and the good work happening throughout the state."

He is in his eighth year as superintendent.

The district, which serves about 800 students, consists of Pleasantdale Middle and Elementary schools. About 12 percent of the student body is considered low-income.

According to a news release, Pleasantdale has:

  • Carried out construction projects that improved learning experiences.
  • Expanded access to extracurricular activities at all levels.
  • Improved student outcomes as measured by the Illinois Assessment of Readiness.
  • Provided financial stability.
  • Launched new curriculums in all academic areas.
  • Expanded services for special education students through a co-teaching model.
